Athens Experiences

Athens. Before or after the tour. Or just because.

These experiences are available separately from the October tours, as a way of arriving in Greece properly before heading south or west, or as a way of letting it settle before you fly home. Or simply because Athens is worth it on its own terms.

Athens Through the Palate, My Stomping Ground

Athens is not a city you see. It is a city you eat.

Tuesdays and Thursdays, September then November onwards·Maximum 8 people·Approximately 4 hours including the sit-down lunch

I've been walking these streets for most of my adult life. The bakery that opens at five in the morning and closes when the bread is gone. The market stall where the same family has sold olive oil since my parents' generation. The corner shop with the unlabelled barrel wine that the locals drink standing at the counter.

This is a four-hour walk through the neighbourhoods I know, Monastiraki, Psiri, the Central Market, stopping where I always stop, eating what I always eat. Not a curated food experience. My actual stomping ground.

It ends at a long meze lunch. The kind that starts at one in the afternoon and has no particular intention of ending.

What you'll taste

Koulouri from the sesame-ring seller who has been on the same corner for decades. Bougatsa, the custard pastry that Thessaloniki claims but Athens does differently. Pastourma, the cured meat that the market families eat standing up. Fresh-pressed olive oil on bread, nothing else. Whatever the season has brought to the Central Market that morning. And at the table: meze, wine, time, conversation.

Add-on: The Taverna Evening

Barrel wine, a long table, and music that starts when it wants to.

Approximately 3 hours. No agenda·An add-on to the food walk, or a standalone evening

Some evenings in Athens, the city decides to be generous.

This is a dinner at a traditional taverna, the kind with no printed wine list because the wine comes from a barrel behind the bar. The kind where the food arrives in the order the kitchen decides, not the order you asked. Where the musicians start playing at some point in the evening, not at a scheduled time.

I've been eating at places like this my whole life. I know which ones are still real.

Unplugged Athens

Put it down. Athens will wait.

One guide. Maximum 6 people. 3 hours·Before or after the tours

There is a version of Athens that exists behind the phone screen. And there is a version that only becomes available when you put the phone away.

Unplugged Athens is a half-day experience designed around one idea: what do you notice when you're not recording it?

We walk. We stop. We sit in squares without photographing them. We eat without posting it. We have conversations that don't need to be documented. This is not a digital detox programme, it is simply the way Greeks have always moved through their city. Unhurried. Present. Open to whatever the morning decides to offer.

Available before the tours begin, as a way of arriving in Greece properly before the journey starts. Or after, as a way of letting it settle before you leave.

The space to feel Greece. The access to live it. This is what that looks like in practice.
